Fieldfisher is pleased to announce the promotion of two of its senior associates to Counsel, as part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to recognising and nurturing legal excellence across its European network.

Dr. Nicolas Celis (Energy) and Beatrice Van Tornout (Dispute Resolution) have been promoted in recognition of their technical expertise, strategic insight, and continued dedication to delivering high-quality advice to clients navigating complex legal and regulatory issues.

Dr. Nicolas Celis is a core member of Fieldfisher’s Climate Change, Energy & Utilities practice. He advises a wide range of private and public sector clients on matters spanning renewable energy, carbon markets (notably EU ETS and related regulation), ESG compliance, and climate change litigation. His work frequently involves advising on complex contractual arrangements such as Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs), Hydrogen Sales and Purchase Agreements (SPAs), and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) contracts, where legal precision and regulatory foresight are critical to project viability. With a strong academic background and deep practical experience in EU and international climate and energy law, Nicolas plays a central role in helping clients respond to the evolving regulatory landscape shaped by the EU Green Deal and global energy transition.

Beatrice Van Tornout is part of Fieldfisher’s Dispute Resolution group. She specialises in complex, cross-border disputes and international arbitration, with a focus on enforcement proceedings and high-value commercial conflicts across sectors including construction, energy, automotive, and investment treaty disputes. In addition to her counsel work, Beatrice acts as arbitrator and is an active contributor to the arbitration community through publications and her roles with Cepani 40 and Young ICCA.

David Haverbeke, Head of EU Regulatory at Fieldfisher Belgium, commented on the promotion of Nicolas:
"Nicolas’s promotion is a testament to the depth of his expertise in climate and energy law, and the impact of his work across a range of complex and forward-looking matters. His ability to translate evolving regulation into actionable strategy for clients is a real asset to our practice."

Maxime Berlingin, Head of Dispute Resolution at Fieldfisher Belgium, commented on the promotion of Beatrice:
"Beatrice has consistently demonstrated sharp legal insight, sound judgement, and a strong commitment to client service in high-value disputes. Her promotion reflects the confidence we place in her as a key contributor to the growth of our dispute resolution practice."

These promotions reflect the firm's ongoing focus on strengthening its specialist capabilities and developing the next generation of legal leaders.
