In a hearing by the UK General Dental Council (“Council”), the Council determined that a dental nurse, Ms Adele Royston be erased with immediate suspension. The hearing was partly heard in private and Ms Royston did not attend and was not represented. Ms Royston was found to have performed a surgical face lift on a friend at her home despite having no relevant qualifications. It was found that Ms Royston had planned the operation for two years before carrying out the procedure on her friend in February 2014. The face lift procedure involved putting her friend under local anaesthetic before cutting into her face in two places to tighten the skin, putting the patient at significant risk of problems and complications. It was also found that Ms Royston had had the anaesthetic for two years before carrying out the operation, potentially putting the patient at further risk given the need to follow expiration date guidance when administering anaesthetics.
Ms Royston was reported to her employers by a colleague for carrying out the operation without the relevant and necessary qualifications. She was dismissed from her employment for gross misconduct.
