HIQA has today published a report on its inspection of the child protection and welfare services provided to children living in direct provision accommodation. The report highlights grave concerns that HIQA has about the high number of children living in direct provision centres, who have been referred to the Child and Family Agency.
HIQA has said that over 14% of the children currently living in such centres have been referred to the Child and Family Agency in one year, versus 1.6% for the general child population.
HIQA have issued a set of recommendations to the Child and Family Agency, which can be viewed in the report.
