Information Sharing between HIQA and the Ombudsman

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and the Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in respect of the sharing of information relating to complaints being received.  Mr Tyndall highlighted the current ‘fractured and complex’ nature of the health and social care complaints process in Ireland and said that the signing of this Memorandum is timely given that his office is due to be given jurisdiction over nursing home complaints. Phelim Quinn, the CEO of HIQA, noted recent investigations and the importance of learnings for service providers from sharing information obtained in the course of complaints.
