‘Safe Prescribing and Dispensing of Controlled Drugs’ was launched yesterday by the Medical Council and the PSI as a joint initiative.
The collaborative guide highlights changes to the legislative regime relating to controlled drugs, following the enactment of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2017, which came into effect in May this year.
Given the remit of both regulators, the guidance relates to both the prescribing and dispensing of controlled drugs and serves to encourage best practice and raise and promote high levels of professional standards in the treatment of patients.
This is the first publication arising from the partnership between the two regulators, which established a working group to examine common areas of concern in order to safeguard patient and public health outcomes.
The joint guidance can be accessed here.
