The Standards in Public Office Commission (“SIPO”) published its annual report for 2014. The publication of the Registration of Lobbying Bill in 2014 (which was enacted earlier this year and led to the recruitment of Sherry Perreault as Head of Lobbying Regulation) is among the main developments referred to by Mr Justice Daniel O’Keeffe, Chairperson, in his introduction to the report. The Report also draws attention to a small increase in the number of complaints received under the Ethics Acts, rising from 29 in 2013 to 39 in 2014, but highlights the difficulty in making a valid complaint under the current legislation in that, of these 39 complaints, only 12 were validly made.
