H was very seriously assaulted on his way home from a night out with work colleagues. As a result of the incident, he sustained multiple skull fractures and permanent damage to the front right and bottom back of his brain.
H was admitted to St Mary's Hospital London, with a suspected diffuse axonal injury and was placed on life support for 10 days. He was then transferred to a rehabilitation ward before being discharged home. While his physical recovery was steady, he showed signs of behavioural changes including confusion and distress. Upon review by a neuropsychologist it was confirmed H was suffering from a moderately severe brain injury and as such, was experiencing a significant downgrading in his intellectual function. More than four years post injury, H has not recovered.
The life changing injury meant that H was unable to return to his employment as a Trader on the Capital Markets, a career he had enjoyed for more than 17 years.
The injury was awarded under the CICA 2012 scheme.
H commented: "It’s been a long and painful process. I couldn’t have done this on my own. I can’t say thank you enough for your help and advice throughout the drama. It is the most incredible feeling of relief and gratitude that’s it’s settled and it’s over."
