Following Caron Heyes' work in conjunction with Mencap to highlight unacceptable medical treatment of her client Eddie Cassin, the mental health charity has kept up the lobby for change by focusing in the press on the importance of the upcoming LeDeR report.

The Independent, Standard and ITV News among others carried an interview with Eddie's family about the negligent care that caused Eddie's death from asphyxiation after he was wrongly fed jelly, and that his case is expected to be among the latest statistics in the upcoming but delayed LeDeR report into the deaths of people with a learning disability in England.

The LeDeR programme, run by the NHS, was established in 2015 to review the deaths of autistic people and those with a learning disability in England. Its annual reports are aimed at learning from what happened, improving care, reducing health inequalities and preventing future deaths.
