It has been reported that in the last few days two cyclists have been seriously injured and another has died after a series of incidents in London this week. One of the deaths occurred on Cycle Superhighway 2, which has just been extended from Bow to Stratford, and was criticised by a coroner last month as "an accident waiting to happen".
Yesterday Boris Johnson unveiled at £35million safer cycling programme that will include full or semi-segregation along a route between Bow and Aldgate. A new North-South route between Elephant and Castle and King's Cross via Blackfriars bridge will be "substantially segregated".
Jennifer Buchanan said:
"We are seeing too much of this devastation, things need to be addressed and a change must happen. As a London commuter, it is quite clear that the blue cycle lanes lure cyclists into a false sense of security. Segregated lanes are the solution, these injuries can and should all be prevented"
