Options for including information on waste recovery and disposal systems in veterinary medicinal products
For the purposes of Article 117 of Regulation (EU) 2019/6 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of December 11, 2018, on veterinary medicinal products and repealing Directive 2001/82/EC, which provides for the mention of appropriate waste recovery and disposal systems for veterinary medicinal products, the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) has reported on various options for implementing this provision.
In this regard, the AEMPS provides for the following:
-
Medicines awaiting authorization or registration: the warnings may be added during the national phase, in the case of mutual recognition and decentralized procedures, and before the resolution is issued in purely national procedures.
-
Medicines already authorized or registered:
-
If the medicine is undergoing any modification that affects the texts of the RCM and the packaging material, the warnings may be incorporated during the national phase in the case of mutual recognition and decentralized procedures, and before the issuance of the resolution in purely national procedures.
-
By means of communication: by sending a letter of introduction via CESP, indicating that the holder of the authorization or registration is a member of the collective extended producer responsibility system (SCRAP) managed by the relevant company, as well as the texts of the RCM and the package insert in a version with change control and a clean version.
-
The legal framework for packaging waste covered by these obligations is regulated in Spain by Law 7/2022 and Royal Decree 1055/2022.
