Appointments to the Medical Scientists Registration Board

The Minister for Health Simon Harris TD has recently announced a number of appointments to the new Medical Scientists Registration Board (the “Board”) which was established on 17 October 2016 to regulate the profession of Medical Scientists.

The following persons have been appointed to the Board for a period of 4 years with effect from 9 November 2016, subject to paragraph 3 of Schedule 2 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (as amended):

  • Ms Marie Culliton
  • Ms Bernadette Jackson
  • Ms Helen Lambkin
  • Ms Cliodhna Foley Nolan
  • Mr John O’Loughlin
  • Mr Brendan O’Reilly
  • Ms Irene Regan
  • Ms Pauline Treanor
  • Mr Vincent Hunt
  • Mr Maurice Keady
  • Ms Wendy Kennedy
  • Professor Mary Hunt

The Board will be overseen by the Health and Social Care Council (“CORU”) and will be responsible for the promotion of high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training and competence among registered medical scientists practising in Ireland.

The functions of the Board will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining a register of members of the profession of Medical Scientists
  • Deciding on applications for registration and issuing certificates of registration
  • Setting the standards of performance and establishing the code of conduct and ethics expected of registered medical scientists
