Etty's Story
Charlotte
Hilton, an Associate in our IP team represented Etty,
a deaf 11 year old girl, in a two day hearing at the Special Educational Needs
and Disability Tribunal. Etty's local authority had decided to send her to a school that was wholly inappropriate for her. Despite compelling evidence from Etty's parents, the local authority had refused their request to send her to a specialist deaf school. With Charlotte's support, the Tribunal were persuaded to find in favour of Etty. Etty is now flourishing in her school and looks towards her future dream of becoming a marine biologist.
The National Deaf Children’s Society is grateful to the partnership and staff at Fieldfisher who, since 2014, have given up their time to provide representation in Special Education Needs Appeals cases for deaf children. The partnership has allowed us to reach more families and help them get the vital support they need at school and college and make sure that no deaf child gets left behind.
