Frequently Asked Questions
Are you recruiting Solicitor Apprentices this year?

We are looking for post A-level students dedicated to a career in Law to join the Firm in September 2025.

The Solicitor Apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity 'to earn whilst you learn' and become a qualified lawyer in England & Wales.

Our structured programme is just over six years in length and combines paid work experience with part-time study for a professional qualification.

During the first four years, you will work with one team, developing your legal knowledge, building your academic knowledge of the law as well as developing your internal and external network.

In the final two years you will join the trainee solicitor intake and commence four additional seat rotations, each for six months.

Throughout the six years you will be working for four days per week and spend one day studying with The University of Law.

Please contact our dedicated Early Careers Team if you would like to discuss any adjustments to the process.

Eligibility Requirements:

Have achieved or on track to achieve a minimum of 3 B's at A Level or equivalent.

Can I have further details on the Online Assessment?

The assessment has been designed to measure the strengths that enable high performance at Fieldfisher. You do not need to do any preparation or practice beforehand – in fact, it’s best to go in with an open mind and answer the questions honestly, without overthinking your response.

The online assessment is not timed; however, we predict it should take you approximately 5 minutes to complete. Please answer the questions at a pace that feels comfortable to you – the total time taken does not influence the outcome of the assessment result.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide further information regarding the questions ahead of time, however there are two practice assessments built into the assessment, which you will complete ahead of answering our strength-based questions.

Why have you introduced this assessment?

Traditional online assessment methods, such as Situational Judgement Tests, are notorious for not being neurodiverse friendly. They often compare candidates to large samples of mostly neurotypical candidates, or apply scoring algorithms identically to each individual, penalising those who think differently.

By contrast, the methodology used in the Neurosight online assessment is much more neurodiverse friendly, because it understands and adapts in real-time to individual differences in decision-making style.

This is achieved by applying a form of AI (machine learning) to dynamically tailor the scoring algorithms in real-time, for every candidate, in order to accommodate differences in neuropsychology.

This accounts for unique decision-making styles, including those outside the ‘norm’, and adapts to ensure a level-playing field.

Results from dozens of studies demonstrate its effectiveness in supporting neurodiverse candidates. A recent study of 4,600 assessment completions at a large accountancy firm show candidates declaring a disability scoring slightly higher than those without.

What happens when I submit my application?

After submitting your application, it will be pre-screened by one of the Early Careers Team. You may then be invited to complete the online assessment. After your assessment has been completed, your application and assessment will be reviewed together.

You will be notified of the outcome of your application via email.

Can I apply for work experience programmes?

Due to the number of formal schemes and programmes we host throughout the year, we are unable to offer ad-hoc work experience.

Do you offer traditional vacation schemes?

We do not offer traditional vacation schemes in any of our offices. We host one insight scheme per year, our Diversity Access Scheme which is open to penultimate year, final year students and graduates.

Please refer to our Diversity Access Scheme information page on our site to check if you are eligible to apply. Our scheme is a brilliant way to gain an understanding of the firm and ensure it is the right fit for you.

Do you sponsor work visas?

Yes, we can provide you with the necessary documentation to work in the UK, however this is always conditional on approval from the UK Border Agency. We can only provide sponsorship visas for trainees, not for schemes or apprenticeships.

What school leaver opportunities do you have?

We offer Solicitor and non-legal Apprenticeships for school leavers. Please see our website for information.

Do you run insight days?

Yes, we have several insight days, open evenings and networking events scheduled throughout the year. Spaces are limited and are provided on a first come, first serve basis. Please visit our events page for further details: Early Careers | Graduate Recruitment | Fieldfisher

I don't have your minimum grade requirements; can I still apply?

We would still encourage you to apply. Whether you are a school leaver or a university student or graduate, it has been a difficult time for students, and we stand by the fact that there are other ways to determine whether someone is a good fit and if they can excel. We will accept applications from candidates with mitigating circumstances however they must be included on your application form. Don't forget to highlight your personal achievements, hobbies, and work experience – these are some of the things that will help your application stand out.

Do you reimburse travel costs?

Yes, we reimburse travel costs up to £100 for attending assessment centres or interviews. Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse travel expenses for events.

I've requested a feedback call, when can I expect this?

We arrange feedback calls once we have completed the recruitment for all available positions. We will likely arrange these from May 2025 onwards.
