Finally, criminal justice for family of woman killed by 2 tonnes of falling bricks

A judge's hand holding a wooden gavel, about to strike it on a sound block, with the judge blurred in the background in a courtroom setting.

After six long years of waiting, the family of Michaela Boor saw the developer and builders responsible for the site on which 2 tonnes of bricks fell from a crane and killing her answer charges of manslaughter.

Ms Boor was hit by the bricks when they fell on top of her as she walked along the pavement with a friend after dropping off her children at school in east London in 2018.

Keith Barrett previously settled a civil claim for damages on behalf of Ms Boor's only son. He highlighted how important it was, however, for the family to know that the Health and Safety Executive had proceeded with the criminal prosecution.

In Westminster Magistrates' Court this week, Higgins Homes Plc, the developer,  was accused of corporate manslaughter and a health and safety offence while four men including the crane operator and site supervisor, are each accused of one count of gross negligence. All were bailed until the court hearing at the Old Bailey on 14th July.

Fieldfisher will also represent the family at Ms Boor's inquest once the criminal hearing has concluded.
