Student awarded settlement after crash with careless driver
Francesca Krauze has reached a settlement on behalf of her client Mark* who was knocked off his motorcycle by an elderly driver who did not check the road before pulling out.
Mark was 18-years-old and just weeks away from sitting his A-Level exams when a stationary motorist suddenly pulled out from a side road and his path, causing him to crash into the car.
The driver was later found guilty of causing serious injury by careless driving at a criminal trial. Mark, who had been driving home from college, sustained serious lower limb injuries in the collision with the car. He was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital and treated for his injuries, which included a closed fracture to his left femur and soft lacerations and abrasions on his left thigh.
Mark underwent two extremely painful surgeries on his leg, had pins inserted and he has been left with surgical scarring. He was awarded a statement of recognition as he was unable to sit his A-levels and had to defer his university place in order to focus on his rehabilitation and due to ongoing severe pain that made it difficult for him to focus. His fracture failed to unite and funding was secured for private surgery to his leg which expedited his recovery and enabled him to commence his deferred university place. His recovery has been prolonged and his mobility impacted.
He instructed Francesca in a personal injury claim and just 13 months after the accident, she secured a settlement. Mark was awarded a significant six figure sum for his ordeal, which will help to pay for the ongoing physiotherapy he needs.
