Apprentice vs graduate: Two paths to becoming a solicitor

19/08/2025

At Fieldfisher, we recognise that there is no single path into the legal profession — and we’re proud to support a range of entry routes that help open the door to a more diverse legal sector.

In a recent episode of the Kids Law podcast, Annabel Twose, a second-year trainee solicitor, and Matthew Dady, a first-year solicitor apprentice, shared their personal journeys into law. Speaking from our London office, Annabel and Matt joined hosts Alma-Constance and Lucinda for an open conversation about what it’s like to train as a solicitor through two very different pathways.

The episode, titled “Apprentice vs Graduate: Two Paths to Becoming a Solicitor”, covers:

  • Why Annabel and Matt chose their respective routes
  • The day-to-day realities of legal training
  • The support available within a firm environment
  • Challenges faced and lessons learned
  • Their ambitions for future practice
  • Advice for aspiring lawyers

While this podcast appearance was an external opportunity taken on by our colleagues, it highlights the importance of showcasing varied experiences within the legal profession. We’re delighted to see Annabel and Matt contributing to public understanding of how young people can access legal careers.
