Once again, Covid-19 dominates the charity news highlighting the financial pressures facing the sector. However, it is not all doom and gloom, with positive news of funding to FareShare, youth organisations and disadvantaged women lifting the spirits as we reach the end of a long 2020.

FareShare to receive a £16 million Winter Support grant to feed those in need
At least 4,000 frontline charities, not-for-profit organisations and community groups in England will benefit, including refuges, homeless shelters and rehabilitation services. The programme aims to provide over 7,600 tonnes of food over the winter months.

Charities supporting disadvantaged women and girls to receive £15 million from the Tampon Tax Fund
Projects that help victims of domestic abuse, work with eating disorder sufferers, and provide mentoring for disadvantaged young women, are among those to receive grants of more than £1 million each over the next two years. The money will also be used to make grants to smaller organisations.

Spending Review 2020
The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced the results of the spending review today. Highlights affecting the charity sector include: cuts to international aid spending, updates to plans for the UK shared Propensity Fund, the creation of the 'Levelling Up Fund', an increase in the Charity Commission budget and an increase to Local Government funding.

£16.5m to go to Youth Covid-19 Support Fund
An emergency funding package to protect the immediate future of grassroots and national youth organisations across the country has been announced by the Government. The funding will be allocated from the Government’s unprecedented £750 million package of support which is benefiting tens of thousands of frontline charities.

200+ BAME organisations secure share of £9.5m National Lottery funding to survive Covid-19 pandemic
205 community organisations led by, or supporting, that support, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities have received a share of £9.5million of National Lottery funding to help recover from the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Charities likely to reduce services as lockdown bites
Two thirds of charities say they will have to reduce services in the next three months as a result of lockdown measures, according to a new survey by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
