Our Competition Team was awarded Team of the Year at Tuesday night's Legal Business Awards in London.
Earlier in the year, we submitted to the Legal Business Awards a case showing our expertise in complex standalone competition claims and cross-practice working.
Our competition litigation team represented Achilles Information Limited (a provider of supplier assurance and compliance services) in claims under the Competition Act 1998 for infringements by Network Rail (the owner/operator of the majority of Britain's rail infrastructure).
This was a 'David v Goliath' case in which a niche services business was pitted against an industry monolith with no appetite to seek a commercial compromise.
The case was heralded by other law firms (including Cleary Gottlieb, which was the runner-up in the awards) as a notable case that will make standalone cases in the UK more attractive. It also demonstrated our ability to blend the expertise of our Regulatory and Dispute Resolution specialists, covering standalone and follow-on litigation as well as investigations and advisory work.
Competition and Regulatory partner John Cassels and Dispute Resolution partner Stephen May led on the case. John said: "This award is prestigious, and we're very pleased and proud to have won it. The other firms shortlisted were all impressive, but we believe this vindicates our outstanding competition litigation offering. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who was involved."
