Fieldfisher expands Diversity Access Scheme with Canva and Peloton to champion inclusive legal careers

30/06/2025

European law firm Fieldfisher is proud to announce the continued evolution of its Diversity Access Scheme (DAS), a pioneering initiative that supports students from under-represented backgrounds in pursuing legal careers.

The expansion of the DAS aligns with Fieldfisher’s refreshed inclusion strategy, which sets out the firm's commitment to creating a fairer, more equitable workplace and legal sector. This year, Fieldfisher is delighted to welcome Canva as a new partner alongside global fitness company, Peloton, reinforcing a shared commitment to equity, inclusion, and opportunity.

Launched in 2012, DAS is a two-week paid programme offering students first-hand legal work experience at Fieldfisher, including a three-day induction in London, skills workshops and networking. Students also visit Canva and Peloton, spending time with their in-house legal teams, and conclude the programme with a visit to Erskine Chambers. The scheme serves as a direct pathway to a training contract at Fieldfisher.

The scheme is aimed at students from backgrounds under-represented in the legal profession, including but not limited to those from minority ethnic communities, lower socio-economic backgrounds, the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people and individuals who are neurodivergent.

Since the 2016[1] cohort a total of 51 former DAS students have secured training contracts at Fieldfisher, 29 of which are currently still employed at the firm, progressing from trainee to associate level.

Looking ahead, 22 DAS students are confirmed to join the firm over the next two years, reflecting the scheme’s growing impact and long-term commitment to inclusive recruitment.

Sarah Donoghue, Early Careers Recruitment & Development Manager at Fieldfisher, said:

“The DAS is one of the most meaningful ways we live our values. It’s about more than access – it’s about belonging, development and creating real pathways into the legal profession. We’re proud to partner with organisations like Canva and Peloton who share our vision for a more inclusive future.”

Chris Macfarlane, Regional Deputy General Counsel at Peloton, added:

“This is our fourth year collaborating with Fieldfisher on the DAS, and we’re thrilled to continue this purpose-driven partnership. At Peloton, we have an unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable workplace, which includes widening access and providing developmental opportunities for future legal professionals. The DAS gives students a real-world view of the legal profession and helps them build the confidence and skills to thrive.”

Ben Urquhart, Program Lead and Commercial Legal Counsel at Canva, commented:

"At Canva, we believe diversity fuels creativity, innovation, and meaningful impact. Partnering with Fieldfisher on the DAS is a natural extension of our commitment to building inclusive workplaces. Guided by our value of empowering others, we’re proud to support early career opportunities through skill-based volunteering, helping the next generation of legal professionals thrive.”

Fieldfisher’s Inclusion Strategy continues to support key inclusion strands including disability, gender, LGBTQ+ inclusion, race and ethnicity, and social mobility. The firm remains committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.
