European law firm Fieldfisher is pleased to announce the recruitment of Mark Richards, a leading EPC specialist with an established expertise in the energy industry sector.

Mark brings over three decades of experience advising on major international programmes in the energy sector, in particular conventional power and infrastructure. His arrival will significantly enhance the firm’s ability to advise on EPC contracts within complex energy and infrastructure projects across the UK, Europe and globally.

Mark has held a range of senior roles in private practice, industry and consultancy, including as Chief Counsel for International Operations at CH2M HILL (now Jacobs Engineering), VP Legal at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, and Acting General Counsel for EDF Energy Nuclear Generation.

His career spans high-profile projects, such as the Sizewell C development, the Chernobyl Shelter Implementation Plan, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation reactor procurement programme and the transformation of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories into Canada’s first GoCo. Mark has also provided strategic legal support for nuclear decommissioning programmes where decommissioning was a condition of EU accession, Thames Tideway and Lee Tunnels, Crossrail and the Dounreay PBO.

Mark has a proven track record of working effectively in culturally diverse, multidisciplinary teams often in politically sensitive and highly regulated and secure environments.

Upon arrival, Mark will work closely with Fieldfisher's Construction team on the firm's growing portfolio of infrastructure and energy projects in the UK and globally.

Cecily Davis, Construction & Projects Partner at Fieldfisher, commented:

"I am thrilled to be working again with Mark who, while at CH2MHill, was my client. He is highly respected in the legal and commercial communities within the nuclear sector and brings a rare combination of top tier nuclear experience and a first class understanding of the importance EPC contracts play in the successful delivery of complex energy projects."
