Government ramps up efforts to tackle gender pensions gap as disparity reaches 48%

The gender pensions gap has come under increasing scrutiny, with recent data showing women accumulate significantly less pension wealth than men—up to 48% less for those nearing retirement age. A series of reports, consultations and policy initiatives since 2022 have highlighted the scale of the issue and prompted government action, including the launch of a Pensions Commission tasked with addressing pension inequalities.
