Security over goods
There are a number of difficulties in taking security over goods (or, to use the older term, "chattels") as opposed to other assets. This briefing paper is an introduction to the subject, and highlights some of the key issues.
Form of Security
Under English law, security over goods may be in the form of a mortgage, charge, pledge or lien. For the sake of convenience, we refer to the person giving the security (the mortgagor, chargor or pledgor) as the "borrower" and the person taking it (the mortgagee, charge or pledgee) as the "lender".
