Share Appreciation Rights (“SARs”) are a form of employee incentive arrangement which are similar to some share option plans, but which have two additional advantages:
- for the company, share dilution can be reduced or eliminated; and
- for the employee, there is no need pay an option exercise price.
Because it is their differences from typical share option plans that make SARs notable, it is helpful to look at these more common plans first.
