The Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg e.V. (ARIC) and the commercial law firm Fieldfisher will collaborate intensively in the future at the interface between law and artificial intelligence (AI). Starting from Hamburg, ARIC and Fieldfisher have created an alliance with other corporate partners and scientific institutions that bundles and jointly develops the necessary competencies for a trustworthy implementation of AI systems.
As an interdisciplinary, application-oriented competence center for AI, ARIC is a central know-how carrier and impulse generator for the cross-industry future topic of AI. ARIC's members include the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, universities, research institutions, startups, SMEs and corporations. In order to promote ethically sound AI that complies with legal regulations, the fairness, explainability, and robustness and security of AI systems are part of ARIC's work.
That the legal dimension of AI is becoming increasingly important is evident, not least in the groundbreaking draft of the new EU regulation on the use of AI in the implementation of safety-critical and human-centric AI systems. "Especially when AI prototypes are turned into operational products and services that interact with humans or have an impact on our daily lives and society, the European requirements for AI solutions are complex and need to be implemented with safety and value in mind," said Dr. Philipp Plog, Managing Partner of Fieldfisher Germany.
"We are pleased to partner with Fieldfisher, through which AI can not only be viewed from a computer science or algorithmic perspective, but can be evaluated and implemented in legal dimensions. As a leading law firm in advising around digital innovation, Fieldfisher is a strong partner to jointly position ARIC as a European center of trusted AI," said Alois Krtil CEO of ARIC.
Fieldfisher regularly advises companies and institutions on AI compliance issues, as well as PE investors on investments in AI business models, and most recently provided comprehensive advice to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on the establishment of the European cloud project GAIA-X.
