Colin Gibson

I am Head of Dispute Resolution at Fieldfisher and a partner in our London office specialising in complex litigation and arbitration.

I have more than 25 years' experience in commercial disputes, domestically and internationally. My key expertise is in commercial/corporate disputes, technical disputes, domestic and international trade disputes and defamation.

I am ranked as a Leading Individual for Commercial Litigation in the Legal 500 2022 and I am also listed in Legal 500's Arbitration Powerlist 2022.  I have appeared on BBC television and radio speaking about litigation issues.

My specialist sport disputes practice includes acting for public authorities (panel lawyer for UK Sport and Sport England), football clubs, players, agents, owners and sports media businesses in the English High Court, FA Rule K arbitration and international arbitration.

Representative matters include:

• Representing a major commodities trader in a $200m oil and gas related arbitration and associated High Court litigation.
• Acting for the owner/operators of a major copper mine in a €50m High Court dispute.
• Representing the investor in a $100m investment treaty arbitration in the CIS region.
• Acting for a top flight football club in an $18m arbitration concerning construction of its new stadium and associated international enforcement proceedings.
• Acting for the chair and an employee of an investment bank in relation to $50m fraud allegations.
• Representing a UK regulator in £23m breach of statutory duty proceedings.
• Acting for the majority shareholders of a sports marketing company in a £15m+ shareholder dispute.
• Acting for a Premiership football club in FA Rule K proceedings concerning agents' fees.
