My role is to keep the department up to date with changes in the law. This encompasses training, know-how, current awareness, drafting precedents, identifying topics for articles and writing and editing them.
I have over 25 years' experience in real estate, 10 of which were as a fee earner in major City firms. I have a wide experience of a huge range of real estate transactions.
I speak at external conferences on a regular basis and provide training workshops and seminars for clients.
I sit on the editorial boards of Estates Gazette and Landlord & Tenant Review, as well as on the editorial board of the commercial property channel of isurv, the award-winning RICS online service.
I have played an active role in the consideration of draft legislation, including the Land Registration Rules, e-conveyancing, the reforms to the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act and energy performance certificates. I was a member of the working party which published the 2007 Code for Leasing Business Premises.
I am in constant touch with government departments, such as the Land Registry, Department for Communities and Local Government and HMRC, to discuss developments in real estate law and practice and their effect on practitioners and our clients.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking and baking for friends, neighbours and family. I am also Chair of our village hall, for which we are constantly fundraising to keep it running.
