The appointment of the seasoned corporate, commercial and renewable energy law expert will complement Fieldfisher’s renowned international practice

Fieldfisher Ireland LLP has appointed Peter O'Neill as a Partner in its Corporate and Commercial and Renewable Energy Law Practice.

A seasoned professional, Peter joins the firm with eighteen years of experience securing favourable outcomes for clients in all aspects of commercial and corporate law including M&A transactions, venture capital transactions, distribution agreements and outsourcing agreements. Peter also has considerable experience in the area of renewable energy advising on project finance, energy regulatory issues, project sales and acquisitions, and joint ventures. He has previously acted for a mixture of Irish and international clients in relation to domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions as well as private equity, corporate investments, shareholders’ agreements and reorganisations, both Irish and cross-border.

In 2023, Peter led a team advising FuturEnergy Ireland, a joint venture between Coillte and the ESB, on the formation of a long-term Strategic Framework Agreement with Greencoat Renewables PLC in relation to onshore wind projects across Ireland.

At Fieldfisher Ireland, Peter will collaborate closely with Feilim O'Caoimh (Partner and Head of Corporate and Commercial and Renewable Energy) and Elaine Traynor (Partner, Renewable Energy). Together, they will strengthen the firm's delivery of exceptional service to clients across a broad range of commercial, corporate and renewable energy issues.  O’Neill, a County Tyrone-native, joins the firm after having spent the last four and a half years in a similar role at Eversheds Sutherland Ireland.

Commenting on the appointment, JP McDowell, Managing Partner at Fieldfisher Ireland, said:

The addition of Peter to Fieldfisher’s commercial, corporate and renewable energy law practice aligns with the firm’s goal of providing the best service possible, adding to our extensive institutional knowledge and years of experience in this field in Ireland. We’re delighted to welcome Peter aboard and he will no doubt be a great asset to our firm.”

Peter O'Neill, speaking on his appointment, said:

I welcome the opportunity to join a leading international firm and collaborate with my new colleagues across Ireland and internationally. Fieldfisher’s work in advocating on both corporate and commercial issues aligns closely with my own, and I look forward to adding my own experience to the firm’s already extensive capabilities."
