What is ataxic cerebral palsy
Ataxic cerebral palsy is a developmental disorder caused by injury to a part of the brain called the cerebellum before, during or after birth. This injury leads to impaired balance and coordination amongst other symptoms.
Ataxic cerebral palsy signs and symptoms
Ataxic cerebral palsy symptoms will display differently depending on the severity of the injury. Common symptoms include:
- Difficulty balancing and walking
- Tremors/Shakiness
- Difficulty coordinating muscles
- Walking with feet apart
- Impaired precise motor skills, such as grasping objects
- Hearing and vision problems
- Speech problems
- Learning difficulties and cognitive impairments
