As we start a new year, we sense that charities and social enterprises are putting a bad year behind them and starting to look ahead and plan for the future. We see below examples of attempts to encourage greater participation through guidance and analysis, although Covid-19 remains inevitably at the forefront of people's thinking.

NCVO publish 'The Road Ahead' Report 2021
The Road Ahead is an annual analysis written by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. The report looks into the changing operating environment for anyone working in the voluntary sector. This year's analysis covers the political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental factors impacting charities.

Government publishes a guide for VCSE organisations to help them win Government contract bids
DCMS and the Cabinet Office have created this guide for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector as they seek to bring more charities, public service mutuals and social enterprises into public sector supply chains.

A Coalition of charities campaign for a two year Gift Aid Emergency Relief package
The Gift Aid Emergency Relief campaign propose that Gift Aid be raised from 20% to 25% and that the Small Donation scheme be extended out to many more charities. Read their full campaign briefing here.

Charity Commission to launch a consultation on responsible investment guidance
The Charity Commission is to consult on revised guidance on responsible investments. The Commission plan to publish guidance in the Spring of 2021 for public consultation. It is hoped the final updated responsible investments guidance will be available in the Summer of this year.

Government publishes 'A look at volunteering during the response to Covid-19'
DCMS commissioned the 'Community Life Covid-19 Re-contact Survey' to provide data on how the pandemic has affected volunteering, charitable giving, social cohesion, wellbeing and loneliness in England. The research looks at formal and informal volunteering.
