European law firm Fieldfisher has been collaboratively working with The Open University to develop vital training resources for the legal sector. This project, funded by UK Research and Innovation Responsible AI, aims to equip organisations with the knowledge necessary to implement artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and is a direct outcome of LawtechUK's Access to Legal initiative.

Pro Bono Senior Associate at Fieldfisher, Catriona Filmer, commented: "We are delighted to be working alongside The Open University and LawtechUK on this important initiative. By creating accessible training resources for the access-to-justice community, law students, and the wider legal sector, we intend to address the current knowledge gap and empower organisations to effectively integrate AI solutions into their legal practices.

"This collaboration underscores Fieldfisher's ongoing commitment to leveraging technology to improve access to justice and to support the legal sector in navigating the complexities of AI compliance."

This collaboration formed from LawtechUK’s inaugural Access to Legal Workshops, which brought together professionals from diverse backgrounds, all focused on enhancing access to legal support. Participants identified key challenges faced by frontline legal practitioners and brainstormed practical, technology-driven solutions. The workshops also highlighted the broader importance of data consistency, knowledge sharing, responsible AI adoption, and cross-sector collaboration in making legal support more accessible and effective.
