Professional background

Professional background

I advise international individuals and families in relation to inbound UK investment and relocating to the UK. I also advise trustees, beneficiaries, family offices, and private banks in relation to governance, succession planning and trust law.

I am a leading specialist in international tax, having provided expert evidence to the High Court and being asked to consult with the UK Treasury in relation to changes to the non-UK domicile rules that were implemented in 2017.

I also participated in the consultation sessions with the UK Treasury in May and August 2024 regarding the sweeping non-UK domicile and remittance basis rule changes enacted from April 2025.

The majority of my work is cross-border, which often involves complex international treaty and conflict of law issues. However, I minimise complexity wherever possible and provide practical, commercial, usable advice. My advice encompasses both business and private assets and my clients, most of which are high profile individuals, range from technology entrepreneurs to dynastic business-owning families.

I have a particular focus on working with clients in the Far East, especially Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, in relation to the succession of family investment companies as well as listed and unlisted owner-managed family businesses.

With respect to pro-bono, I was proud to manage a multi-jurisdictional project to provide advice on the various available Ukrainian refugee schemes across Europe.

Both I and Fieldfisher's Private Client team are named in various directories and rankings, including Chambers and Partners HNW Guide the Legal 500 (where I am personally ranked as a leading practitioner), Citywealth and the ePrivateClient Top Law Firms. I am also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
