Professional background

I am experienced in a range of non-contentious legal work including drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of standard form and bespoke construction contracts and ancillary documents. I am also familiar with drafting and negotiating PFI documentation (including variations and complex settlement agreements).

I also work alongside developers and lenders, carrying out due diligence and advising on construction documentation in the context of developments and investments.

My experience includes:

  • acting for a purchaser client in drafting the associated documentation for the termination of a management contractor's employment and appointment of a new construction manager as part of a shift in procurement strategy halfway through the development of a multimillion pound facility;
  • negotiating a substantial appointment of an architect for a major exhibition at the V&A, including drafting and negotiating multiple sub-consultancy appointments;
  • reviewing proposed contract terms and assessing the legal risk in the tender documents for the HS2 south stations contracts on behalf of a major contractor acting within a joint venture;
  • advising an international client in relation to the relocation and fit out of its new headquarters in Canary Wharf;
  • advising a large contractor in relation to its joint venture with a significant design consultant for a utilities framework, including the drafting the joint venture agreement and back-to-back sub-contracts;
  • reviewing and reporting on proposed ancillary documents on behalf a main contractor during the tender process for a design, works and maintenance programme of infrastructure at HMNB Clyde; and
  • acting for a major FM contractor on all variations required within its portfolio of nine PFI projects including a number of schools, colleges and academies.
