Professional background

I have direct industry as well as private practice experience, having previously been senior legal counsel at Hess Corporation for six years and, prior to that, having spent a period on secondment to Shell.

My range of experience covers the full oil and gas project lifecycle and includes licensing, concessions, production sharing contracts, joint ventures (including joint bidding agreements and joint operating agreements), development contracts, transportation, processing, marketing and sales as well as share/asset acquisitions and disposals (M&A) and farm-out transactions.

I have extensive experience both within the UKCS and internationally and have worked on projects in many overseas jurisdictions including Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mauretania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria and Thailand.

I have also worked on renewable energy projects, including wind farm, biomass and biofuels projects and, increasingly, wider energy transition opportunities including CCS and hydrogen.

I am a past chair of the Oil and Gas Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). I am also a member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN).
