Professional background
I deal exclusively with contentious (and potentially contentious) issues relating to commercial, mixed use and residential property. This includes landlord and tenant disputes (including lease renewals, dilapidations claims and service charge issues and rent reviews), secured lending disputes, property-related professional negligence claims, real property disputes (including covenants, easements and ownership issues), development issues (including overage, rights of light, party walls and boundary disputes), injunctive action and property-related insolvency issues. I have been involved in many reported cases, including some landmark decisions.
My particular specialism is helping developers, lenders, occupiers and investors unlock value – litigation being a means to an end, rather than an end in itself. However, as a Solicitor Advocate (with rights of audience in all civil courts), I am also an experienced litigator and a qualified mediation advocate. This has led to me being one of only a handful of 'go-to' property litigators in the market, listed as a Leading Expert in all the major directories (including Legal 500 and Chambers). I am a Past Chair of both the Property Litigation Association and the RICS Dilapidations Forum and I have sat on the RICS Boundaries and Party Walls Working Group.
I lecture widely, including delivering my now famous yearly Property Case Round-up, which I give annually to such organisations as the Chartered Surveyor's Livery, clients, ACES and some of the large surveying practices. I also lecture regularly on one of my particular specialisms, being secured lending disputes.
