Professional background

Professional background

My main areas of practice
I advise companies on all aspects of Information, Communications and Technology Law. I also represent companies in court, in negotiations and in dealings with authorities.

My aim is to provide not only answers but also solutions to all legal questions relating to the information society.I am familiar with all relevant laws and areas of law, including in particular Data Protection and Data Law, Telecommunications Law, and Media and Competition Law. Many of my cases and projects break new legal ground, e.g. because they involve a new technology or business model, or because a new law is being created. In such cases, I advise creatively, pragmatically and with a focus on risk.

As an academic author, I publish twice-yearly reports on data protection law in the NJW and am editor of a commentary on the TDDDG. I am also a member of the German Bar Association's Expert Committee on Information Law and a regular lecturer in continuing legal education and at specialist conferences. I am a lecturer in Information Law at the Universities of Cologne and Hagen.

I regularly advise and represent clients in IT security incidents and data breaches. I am experienced in dealing with reporting obligations and mitigating risks, e.g. liability risks, and in subsequent dealings with authorities, the media and affected parties.

I also advise my clients in all areas of technology regulation, including data protection and data regulation, provider liability (Digital Services Act) and content moderation, as well as in Telecommunications Law and Media Law. I regularly represent clients in court, including federal courts and the Federal Constitutional Court.

I am experienced in contract drafting, especially for contracts related to information and communication technology. In this area, I frequently draft contracts related to data exchange, such as intragroup data transfer agreements or data processing agreements.

I advise my clients in English and German.
