Professional background

I primarily assist clients in protecting and exploiting their brands both in domestic and international markets through third party relationships such as franchising, licensing, manufacturing and distribution.
 
I also have experience in providing clients with advice on advertising and consumer laws and regulations, including in respect of promotional activity and engaging influencers.
 
I work with a variety of different clients from large global corporations to start-ups in a wide range of sectors including fashion and retail, food and beverage and healthcare.

In a significant decision for the franchising sector in the UK, the High Court has ruled that franchise agreements between John Benson Ltd (JBL), a driving school franchisor, and twenty former franchisees contained implied terms of good faith and fair dealing. The judgment, handed down by Freedman J in Ellis v John Benson Ltd [2025] EWHC 2096 (KB), confirms that the franchisor’s breaches of these terms were repudiatory, entitling the claimants to lawfully terminate their agreements.
